Imperial College London is a research-intensive institution in the United Kingdom. A member of the prestigious Russell Group, Imperial is one of the best universities in the UK. And, they do a brilliant job with their social media accounts.
This week, Imperial posted a Student Life Meme Manual on their Twitter account. Created by Jesse Alter, Social Media Manager and Henry Firth, Social Media Officer, the manual is a series of tweets pertaining to life at Imperial.
Alter and Firth (honestly, doesn't that sound like the best hipster coffee shop that you've never been to?) came up with the idea for a student life meme manual after seeing similar posts from students as well as after consultation with their team of student bloggers. According to Alter, the goal of the project was “to be as authentic to Imperial as possible.”
Lately it seems that some of the most prestigious UK universities are getting a lot more relaxed with their use of social media. “We started incorporating more gifs and memes into our posts over the past year or so, so it's almost like we were building up to this,” said Alter. “Gifs and memes have become more of a standard form of communication on the internet.”
