Since the beginning of this year, Immigration and Customs Enforcement has arrested a total of 250 foreign students at a fake university, reports the Detroit Free Press.
In recent months 90 more students have been arrested by the Department of Homeland Security for immigration violations while they were attending a fake university in Detroit. Many of the students have already been deported.
The University of Farmington was a creation of federal agents. The duped students were in the country on student visas. The institution was shut down in January, which meant the students were then in violation of their visas.
Seven of the university's eight recruiters who were criminally charged have pleaded guilty. The university was formed several years ago and had 600 enrolled students.
The fake university marketed itself heavily to potential students from India and advertised technology and computer science graduate programs.
