Wheeling Jesuit University, which declared financial exigency this month, on Wednesday announced that it will remain open for the next academic year, but will need to make significant cuts to do so, The Intelligencer reported. President Michael P. Mihalyo Jr. released a statement to the West Virginia campus saying that, “based on our analysis and planning to date, the board believes that the university can marshal the resources necessary to sustain operations for academic year 2019-2020.” But the statement added: “This plan, however, requires difficult decisions. Those decisions include a narrowed set of academic programs and co-curricular activities, and a reduction in faculty and staff. It is recognized that these changes in our program portfolio and campus community will be difficult.” Details on the plans were not released.
