At the start of the 2018 spring semester, athletics at Calhoun Community College will be no more. The Tanner, Ala., community college currently runs programs in golf, baseball and softball. The president cited a decreasing operating budget in making the decision, according to Al.com.

"After much consideration and deliberation of all possible options, we felt this was in the best interest of the college as a whole," Jim Klauber said.

Current athletes will be able to stay in their respective athletic programs through 2017, and all scholarship commitments will be honored. Those choosing to transfer will be released from their Calhoun commitment.
