My PhD is apparently out of date and I've priced myself out of an entry-level position in higher education. How can this happen?

Math, writing, science, history and a variety of additional topics are generally included in the core curricula for higher education institutions. They are the building blocks of education. Standards that have evolved over time. We tend to acknowledge their importance. Ideally, students will achieve a baseline of knowledge and skills that form the foundations of their educational experience.

The Institute for Computer Policy and Law is in its seventeenth year. Like all good girl scouts, it has made "new friends, and keeps the old, one is silver and the other gold!" This year we shared organization with my colleagues Oya Rieger and Kornelia Tancheva of the Cornell University Library to bring our legal and policy acumen to pressing academic questions such as scholarly publishing, copyright, Internet privacy, academic integrity and teaching and learning, to name just a few highlights.

Long-time observers of the public university scene recognize ritual behavior as an essential component of institutional process. Among the many rituals of public university governance, open trustee board meetings have a special place. Everyone looks forward to the board meeting as a theatrical forum where talented individuals play ritualized parts according to well prepared scripts.

As a grad student in my last year of study, I enjoy a pretty flexible schedule and work environment. I work from home a few days a week, and conduct a lot of my research in online spaces, so being constantly connected to the internet is essential for me. However, this constant connectivity is a double-edged sword; I find myself distracted from my work almost as often as I'm focused on it, and as I settle in to struggle with my dissertation and job market materials, I have a hard time shutting out the siren song of Facebook. Lucky for me, a cottage industry of anti-distraction apps has sprung up to keep people like me from destroying themselves one tweet at a time. Here are a few of them.
