Prose and Purpose

I am a faithful TONY awards watcher. Every year, I try to make sure that my schedule allows me to watch the actual broadcast and virtually every year I have been able to do so, often accompanied by my older daughter who shares my passion for theater.

It’s that time of year. We are all getting ready for commencement and we are all trying to do whatever tweaking will make commencement more of a special moment.

When I attended college, my outside of class higher education experiences consisted of participating in student government.

My relaxation is watching a musical while at the same time, as an economist, I recognize the importance of the theater to the economy of New York.

I grew up on the upper west side of Manhattan. Neither of my parents drove and we were a happy mass transit family.

I’m a strong believer that education that incorporates museum experiences and the arts in general is a more fully textured and in-depth learning experience.

On the day the film opened, I was asked by my older daughter to drive the car pool taking her and her friends to an IMAX version of 'Divergent.'

I made the pledge almost three years ago. If the Hofstra fundraising effort, organized by our Roller-Hockey team raised $25,000 I would agree to have my head shaved.
