A partnership announced Thursday will help students in the United States and Mexico. The Monterey Institute for Technology and Education, a nonprofit group that distributes Internet-based courses, will offer free online mathematics courses to Mexican high school and college students. In return, the Corporacion Universitaria para el Desarrollo de Internet, which represents more than 70 Mexican colleges and universities, will develop Spanish translations of the courses to be distributed free of charge to Spanish-speaking students in the United States and elsewhere.
The Animal Liberation Front is claiming responsibility for setting fire to a boathouse at the University of Oxford, causing hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage, The Guardian reported. The British university has been the target of protests by animal rights groups because of plans to build a new primate laboratory.
Five American universities have signed an agreement with India under which the institutions will send visiting professors in the sciences to Amrita University, where their courses will be transmitted to many other Indian universities. The American institutions participating are Carnegie Mellon and Cornell Universities, the State University of New York at Buffalo, and the University of California campuses at Berkeley and San Diego.
