  • Eight students at Utah State University were killed Monday, and three more were injured, when the van in which they were traveling crashed, The Standard-Examiner reported. Utah State officials said that the students were returning from a field trip. Most of the students were freshmen, the newspaper reported.
  • Maryland's private colleges announced Monday that they have signed an agreement to purchase certain goods and services collectively, to save money. Savings are expected in such areas as student health insurance, colleges' property insurance, and tuition-payment plans.
  • Thousands of copies of the new issue of the student newspaper were stolent last week at Morehead State University, in Kentucky, according to the Student Press Law Center. The center links the theft to an article about a sexual assault in an off-campus house.
