Earth Day 40 came and went.

I was at an event on campus, which was being held in a tent. When I learned about it, I thought that was a nice touch. But then the day was nice, the tent was entirely opaque and as enclosed as a temporary floorless tent is ever likely to be so it was dark, and relatively cold, and even a little bit damp outside. Certainly, nowhere near as pleasant inside the tent as outside in the sunshine.

But not to worry, the tent rental company (and whomever had made arrangements with them) had everything well in hand. Electric lights inside the tent. And an electric heater. With an electric blower attached. Which raised the light level, the temperature and the general comfort factor almost as high as if there'd merely been a canopy. (But not quite.) And made such a racket (the blower did, at least), that the speakers were hard to hear. Or, at least, they would have been if it weren't for the electronic PA system which was cranked up to make them audible. At a distance of about 25 feet. My grandmother can make herself heard at 25 feet without amplification, thank you very much.

The words spoken at the event were entirely appropriate, well written, and well delivered. The actions around the addresses, however, were quite the opposite. You know which one spoke louder.

Sigh . . .
