The Center for International Higher Education at Boston College presents a new blog, The World View, which will offer commentary, news, and analysis collected from an international network of experienced observers and researchers — global perspectives by global analysts. The opinions and analyses posted will be written to stimulate reflection and debate on the central issues facing higher education worldwide. Our community of bloggers will provide a wide range of viewpoints and perspectives.
We believe that a broad perspective is necessary to understand the complex realities of global higher education — this perspective can only be achieved with the benefit of a highly qualified group from all continents with a range of backgrounds and interests.
Our participants share a concern for the future of higher education in a period of rapid change. Impelled by the combination of mass enrollments and the demand for sophisticated research and training by a knowledge economy, the modern university is pulled in many directions — financial pressures, the growth of private and for-profit higher education, the corporatization of aspects of the university, and other forces force universities to confront complex, urgent, and often conflicting agendas. The World View will focus on these and other issues from a comparative and international perspective.
