The ACT will not be given as scheduled this week.
The test was to have been offered Tuesday throughout Tennessee and in districts nationwide as part of in-school testing offered by states and districts.
A statement from ACT said, "The ACT state and district test administration that had been scheduled for Oct. 2, 2018 has been postponed due to a compromise in the testing process … A compromise in the testing process is an event that could impact the fairness of the exam. ACT has taken this action to ensure fair testing for all students and to protect the integrity of the test scores. The incident is still under investigation, and ACT cannot comment on what specifically occurred at this time."
The news comes amid difficulties in administrations in recent months of both the SAT and the ACT.
- The first ACT that was exclusively computer based at international testing centers, given last month, featured glitches that prevented some students from taking the exam.
- The August administration of the SAT featured questions that had been used previously and that had been widely available in Asia prior to the test.
- An unusually easy June administration of the mathematics portion of the SAT resulted in unexpectedly low scores for many students, many of whom were angered.
