Cuts and Layoffs Proposed for Jackson State

Jackson State University is planning 42 layoffs, the elimination of 65 vacant positions and a series of other steps to close a deficit, The Clarion-Ledger reported. A hiring freeze will also be imposed, and some programs at the historically black university will be consolidated.
