The former men's basketball coach at the University of Pennsylvania is the latest participant in the college admissions scandal to be sentenced -- and to receive a relatively light punishment.
Jerome Allen, who accepted $300,000 in bribes from a Florida businessman to designate his son as a recruited athlete to help him get into Penn, was sentenced to probation and required to pay more than $200,000 in fines, the Associated Press reported. Allen, now an assistant coach for the Boston Celtics, was among those caught up in the sweeping indictments last spring surrounding Rick Singer's various efforts to help his wealthy clients enroll at selective universities.
