The Students for Justice in Palestine chapter at Northwestern University said on social media that the institution’s Feinberg School of Medicine had deleted photos of pro-Palestinian and Arab students from Flickr and Instagram.

Officials removed photos taken during the medical school’s white coat ceremony earlier this year in which some students were wearing keffiyehs, the SJP post said. Members called it a “deeply concerning” example of “cowardly scare tactics weaponized against campus communities of color” and demanded a public apology from university administrators.

Northwestern did not deny that the photos were removed. In a statement to USA Today, university spokesperson Hilary Hurd Anyaso said they were deleted to safeguard students from doxing. Officials made the decision “out of an abiding concern for the safety and well-being of the students pictured,” Anyaso said.
