Marietta College was planning to welcome a new president in July. Instead it’s back to the drawing board after President-elect Susan Stuebner backed out of the job before it started.
A news release Monday from the college described the sudden reversal as “the result of an unforeseen change in personal considerations for Stuebner.” College officials did not provide additional details on what prompted Stuebner to back out at the last minute.
A college webpage, since deleted, noted that Stuebner was set to start on July 15. Margaret L. Drugovich, who has served as Marietta’s interim president since last July, will remain in place for the rest of 2024.
Stuebner has served as president of Colby-Sawyer College in New Hampshire since 2016. While local media reported that her last day at the college would be June 30, it is unclear if Stuebner intends to remain at Colby-Sawyer, which has already appointed an interim president. Colby-Sawyer officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
