Artificial intelligence (AI) will reshape student experiences, pedagogy and how people communicate, according to dozens of higher ed and technology experts, sharing opinions in a report released Monday.
AI pervaded higher education so much in the last year that Educause, a nonprofit focused on the intersection of higher ed and information technology, updated its annual Teaching and Learning Horizon Report to unpack AI trends.
“Our digital world is evolving more rapidly now than it has at any other point in history,” Jenay Robert, senior researcher at Educause, said in a statement.
The report, which includes the opinions of 66 higher education and technology experts, also found AI will be used to address climate change, sustainability and politics.
The report advises key practices for educators to use AI, including:
- Finding appropriate use for AI enabled tech
- Supporting AI fluency
- Supporting equitable and inclusive learning
- Protecting data privacy and security
- Navigating misinformation
- Supporting mental health
Beyond AI, the respondents said they had growing concerns about cybersecurity and privacy and pointed toward a growing digital divide with many low-income and rural students unable to access the internet.
The report also looked at trends in its long-held categories: political, social, technological, economic and environmental.
