Conrad K. Harper, one of the seven members of the Harvard Corporation, has quit, the university announced Thursday. Harper, the only black member of the university's most powerful board, told reporters that he could no longer support the leadership of President Lawrence H. Summers, but he declined to go into details. The university announcement on Harper's departure did not address Harper's split with the university president.
The Board of Trustees of the New Hampshire Community Technical Colleges voted this week to end mergers of six campuses that had their leadership combined 10 years ago. Board members said they thought each of the colleges needed its own president. The campuses that had been merged are those at Berlin and Laconia, Nashua and Claremont, and Manchester and Stratham/Pease.
Hawaii is suing the Hawaii College of Pharmacy, seeking a court order for it to refund tuition to students and to stop taking money from students, according to The Honolulu Star-Bulletin. The newspaper reports that state officials say that students were misled into believing that the college was accredited -- a charge denied by college officials.
