Amy Hassinger (The Priest’s Madonna) and Fred Arroyo (The Region of Lost Names) introduce Lewis Hyde's The Gift and discuss its cult status among writers.
Amy Hassinger is also the author of Nina: Adolescence (G.P. Putnam's Sons, 2003) and Finding Katahdin: An Exploration of Maine's Past (University of Maine Press, 2001). She’s a graduate of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop and now teaches in the University of Nebraska low-res MFA.
Fred Arroyo is Assistant Professor of English, Drake University. He holds an MA in creative writing from Purdue, an MFA in creative writing from the Program for Writers at Warren Wilson College, and a Ph.D. in English from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He writes fiction, poetry and essays.
Amy and Fred’s piece is called "Writing from Hand to Hand: A Dialogue on Lewis Hyde's The Gift," with music by Bruce Cockburn.
