The word “accountability” is something of a Rorschach test in higher education. When people talk about the word in general or a specific accountability measure, it’s sometimes hard to realize people are talking about the same thing. Some describe higher education as badly in need of more accountability – to students and their tuition paying parents for the quality of education, and to the taxpayers for their investments in higher education. Others see accountability as a buzzword that allows bureaucrats to dictate educational practices that may provide little help for anyone, but a lot of extra work for faculty members. Join Inside Higher Ed editors Scott Jaschik and Doug Lederman for a lively discussion on these issues in this free webinar. Before viewing the webinar, we invite you to download our free booklet, New Debates About Accountability, a compilation of articles and opinion essays from Inside Higher Ed offering a range of ideas and perspectives here.

Inside Higher Ed's New Debates About Accountability webinar is made possible with the support of ETS, a leader in higher education assessment. The HEIghten™ Outcomes Assessment Suite and the ETS® Proficiency Profile help colleges and universities assess general education student learning outcomes for accreditation and other accountability initiatives.
