A 2016 investigation into Medicare fraud featured an unusual character: Rick Singer, the mastermind of the admissions scandal.

Philip Esformes, who was accused (and later convicted) of Medicare fraud, also spent hundreds of thousands on Singer's fake foundation, according to an article in the Los Angeles Times. His daughter and son, via a fake athletic background for one and a fixed college entrance exam for the other, gained entrance to college due to Singer's efforts.

Esformes wasn't charged in those crimes, but they are getting lots of attention now.

Another parent -- Jeffrey Bizzack -- has pleaded guilty in the college admissions scandal. He pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud. According to court documents, Bizzack agreed to pay $250,000 to ensure his son would be admitted to the University of Southern California.

And the movie … Lifetime announced last week that it was approving a film about the admissions scandal. The film will follow two wealthy mothers with an obsession over getting their child into a good college. Rick Singer, come along …
