URI Students Accused of Posting Racist Video on TikTok

At least two University of Rhode Island students have been accused of posting a racist video on TikTok, ABC6 reported.

A still from the video, since deleted, shows a student in what appears to be blackface eating a slice of watermelon.

URI president Marc Parlange issued a statement saying the video “appeared to promulgate racist stereotypes about Black people and was a stinging reminder of the long road URI and America has to travel to truly achieve justice, equity, diversity and inclusion on campus and in society.”

He wrote that the university would follow its policies and procedures in handling the incident and “work towards a swift resolution.”
