Queen’s University in Canada will review its hiring policies with respect to Indigenous faculty and staff members, the CBC reported. Queen’s has been facing pressure to review such policies, especially in light of an anonymous report last month alleging that multiple white faculty members are posing as Indigenous. Previously, Queen’s defended the faculty members in question. But Principal Patrick Deane said in a statement this week that Queen’s has “heard from many voices, inside our university and from around Canada, on the need to rethink and review the ways in which institutions like ours approach the question of Indigenous identity.”
