Former Liberty University president Jerry Falwell Jr. is suing the university, claiming he was wrongly ousted from the presidency, NBC News reported.

Falwell filed a complaint in state court in Lynchburg, Va., that alleges the university defamed him and breached his contract. The complaint does not state a specific dollar amount sought in damages.

“Mr. Falwell has suffered damage to his reputation, damage to his profession, humiliation, and anguish; lost business opportunities; and suffered other pecuniary damage,” the complaint said.

A university spokesperson declined to comment but said Thursday the university had not yet been served with the lawsuit, according to NBC.

Falwell resigned from the private evangelical Christian university in August amid pressure from the Board of Trustees following several scandals.
