Indiana University says eligible non-tenure-track faculty members will be able to apply for promotion to the new rank of teaching professor by fall 2020. The new classification was approved by the university's Board of Trustees, with the support of the faculty and the administration. Indiana already has lecturers and senior lecturers. Teaching professor is now the highest rank for those teaching off the tenure track. The new structure parallels the three-tiered rank systems for tenure-stream and clinical professors, the university says.
