Four people were killed and 47 were injured Saturday when a car crashed into a police car and then into an area where spectators were watching the Oklahoma State University homecoming parade. A two-year-old was among those killed. Also among the killed was a retired Oklahoma State professor and his wife. A police report said five of those injured and hospitalized remained in critical condition as of late Saturday. Six children were among those hospitalized.
The police report said the woman driving the car was arrested on the scene and charged with driving under the influence. She is being held in jail. On Sunday, authorities announced that she is being charged with four counts of second-degree murder.
The University of Central Oklahoma announced that one of those killed was Nikita Nakal, an M.B.A. student at Central Oklahoma from Mumbai, India.
A drunk driver is being blamed for the injuries of seven at a fraternity picnic at Delaware State University on Saturday night. According to a police report, the driver attempted to park his vehicle and realized after leaving the car that it was in reverse. When he re-entered the car, he tried to press the brake but pressed the gas instead, and the car accelerated into a group of people.
