Southern Illinois University did not violate the due process rights of a former student when it barred him from campus and ultimately expelled him upon his arrest for aggravated battery, a federal appeals court ruled on Thursday. The decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit upheld a lower court judge's ruling dismissing a lawsuit brought by Nicholas Hess, who was expelled after he allegedly stabbed a local man in a bar fight near the university's Carbondale campus.
