New York University has reached a settlement with three students who sued the institution last fall, claiming they had experienced “pervasive acts of hatred, discrimination, harassment, and intimidation” since the beginning of the Israel-Hamas war in October, the Associated Press reported Tuesday.
The university settled for an undisclosed amount of money. Officials also agreed to update the language concerning antisemitism in the student conduct code, expand their Judaic studies offerings and strengthen NYU’s existing relationship with Tel Aviv University; pro-Palestinian student protesters have demanded that the university cut ties with the Israeli institution.
“We are committed to continuing our vigorous efforts to confront discrimination, including antisemitism, and the settlement in this litigation is yet another step in this direction,” NYU president Linda G. Mills said.
A lawyer representing the students commended administrators for taking steps to combat antisemitism on campus, encouraging those at other universities to “promptly follow their lead.”
