The American Association of Colleges and Universities has launched a new Institute on AI, Pedagogy and the Curriculum, an online center dedicated to helping institutions deal with the challenges presented by artificial intelligence in the classroom.
The 124 participating institutions will have access to virtual events, webinars, mentorship and collaboration with other campuses over the coming year as they work to “develop and implement AI action plans for their classrooms, curricula, and campuses,” according to the AAC&U’s news release.
“The rapid emergence of generative AI has resulted in profound opportunities and challenges for nearly all disciplines in higher education,” C. Edward Watson, vice president for digital innovation at AAC&U, said in the release. “AI competencies and literacies are quickly emerging as necessary workforce skills.”
He noted that that creates challenges for institutions regarding academic integrity and student learning.
“This institute is designed to help campuses navigate these complexities, engage in curricular and pedagogical reform, and address the array of related concerns associated with AI in higher education, including questions about policies, ethics, and the future of higher learning,” he said.
