Morgan State University in Baltimore is planning to surround the campus with fencing after a shooting injured five people, including four students, during homecoming week, The Baltimore Banner reported.

The barrier would encircle 90 percent of the campus, adding to the existing fencing that already surrounds about 60 percent. In addition, Morgan State president David Wilson noted several other security improvements, including increased police presence and additional cameras. The historically Black university is also considering installing metal detectors in buildings and upping the number of blue-light alarm systems and guard booths around campus.

The security plan is projected to cost about $22 million.

No suspects have been arrested in the Oct. 3 shooting, which led the university to cancel classes for the week and cancel or postpone homecoming festivities.

Days after the Morgan State incident, a shooting took place at Bowie State, another Maryland HBCU, where two young men were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after the university's homecoming football game. Bowie State also canceled classes for the week.

In a gesture of solidarity, Bowie State had offered Morgan State students free tickets to the football game after their homecoming game was rescheduled due to the shooting.
