The University of Oregon has agreed to pay $375,000 to settle a sex-discrimination suit brought by a former women's track coach, according to the Eugene Register-Guard. The former coach lost her job when the men's and women's track programs were merged, and sued for $1.1 million. The settlement stipulated that neither party admitted to any wrongdoing.
The University of California at Berkeley announced Tuesday that it was shutting down Pi Kappa Phi fraternity for one year, and requiring that it restart next year with new members, because of its involvement in a hazing incident in which a student was shot dozens of times with a pellet gun.
A federal judge on Tuesday threw out a lawsuit challenging a law in Kansas that grants in-state tuition rates to some illegal immigrants, The Wichita Eagle reported. The judge ruled that those challenging the law had no legal standing to do so.
