The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit ruled this week that three public-service lawyers were entitled to have their Perkins Loans forgiven, and that a lower court should not have presumed that the Education Department was within its rights to disqualify loan forgiveneness in these cases. Education Department officials did not respond to requests for comment on the case, De La Mota v. U.S. Department of Education.
The attorney general of New Jersey has found probable cause that Fairleigh Dickinson University discriminated against at Muslim nursing student by requiring her to remove her head covering. University officials were unavailable for comment.
