  • The Georgia Supreme Court declined to hear an appeal of a state appeals court decision that shielded campus crime records collected by Mercer University from release under Georgia's open records law. The court's order is the end of the road for a lawsuit brought by a former student at the institution -- and supported by journalism organizations -- that had sought the release of records by the private institution.
  • Kaplan, Inc. announced Tuesday that it had purchased Southwest Health Career Institute, a 12-year-old institution in Albuquerque. The college, Kaplan Higher Education's first in New Mexico, is the company's 76th location in 19 states.
  • The University of Idaho and its foundation have sued the Great American Insurance Company seeking $10 million to cover costs they believe the insurer should have paid as part of the university's failed efforts several years ago to expand into Boise. The two entities are also suing a law firm for malpractice for its role in the $25 million debacle.
