Two-thirds of faculty members at the Community College of Rhode Island are teaching more than a full course load, and some are teaching up to 14 courses a semester, according to an article in The Providence Journal (free registration required). The article notes critics of the practice, but says that administrators defend it, since funds are in short supply and students are signing up.
A new report from the National Center for Education Statistics examines the reasons that adult students enroll in work-related educational programs. Many were required to do so, or were required to do so to earn a raise or promotion.
