Robert L. King, chancellor of the 64-campus State University of New York, plans to step down by June 1, The New York Times reported. King has been seen as on his way out for several months now, especially after apparently losing the support of Gov. George Pataki, who was once his ally. According to The Times, King will become acting president of SUNY's Potsdam campus, and will also receive the title of university professor, a top faculty rank.
The Harvard Corporation on Monday took the unusual step of announcing that it would sell a stock holding -- in a company that does business in Sudan -- for non-financial reasons. The PetroChina company provides key revenue to the government in Sudan, which the United Nations and many other groups have found complicit in the mass deaths currently taking place in Darfur, the statement noted. Student and faculty groups at Harvard have been pushing the university to sell the stock.
