Southwest Tennessee Community College plans to move courses online on Fridays during the summer session to cut commuting costs for students and employees as gas prices remain high, reported WREG-TV, a CBS affiliate in Memphis.

“Virtual Fridays” start tomorrow and extend through Aug. 12. Student services will also be offered online, though on-campus childcare centers will remain open.

“It’s going to help all of us ultimately get over this barrier, this unexpected inflation gate, if you will,” Cory Major, vice president of student affairs, told WREG-TV. “We looked at the fact we have students who have to make a decision about buying groceries or buying gas.”
