The U.S. Education Department and the University of Virginia in September jointly announced government findings that were critical of the way the university handled sex assaults, and plans to improve that system. The Washington Post reported today, however, that the agreement followed earlier, much more critical findings from the department, which were withdrawn after intense lobbying from both the university and Virginia political leaders. The original letter of findings stood for only four days.
