The University of Akron is already facing questions about why it eliminated jobs in its student services division and then hired an outside start-up, without experience, to provide "success coaches" for students. Now the university is apologizing for the actions of one of the coaches working with its students. WKSU News reported that one of the coaches sent an email to 200 students saying that if they did not schedule a meeting with her, she would pull the students out of classes. In fact, meetings with the coaches are voluntary and coaches can't remove students from classes. A University of Akron spokesman, Wayne Hill, said that "an apology has been sent to students who received [the email]; some reinforcement of the best way and most appropriate way to communicate with students. It was one of those where it was unfortunate it happened, but it was addressed and rectified as quickly as possible."
