Seven recent graduates of the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh are facing steep bills after a coding error that led them to underpay tuition, The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Monday.
Now, after graduating from an executive M.B.A. program in the spring, each alum owes $7,903.
Several graduates told the Journal Sentinel that the university sent them a letter noting that a recent audit had determined they were undercharged for the final term of the program.
“The cost of the [executive M.B.A.] program is clearly communicated with students when they enroll in the program,” UW Oshkosh chief of staff Alex Hummel said in a statement to the newspaper. “We regret that an error in billing was made, but the error does not change the cost of the program, the amounts owed by the graduates nor UWO’s obligation to recover costs.”
Graduates have a six-month timeline to pay back the $7,903 owed, the Journal Sentinel reported.
The billing error occurred against the backdrop of looming job cuts at UW Oshkosh, which announced earlier this month it will eliminate up to 200 positions to close an $18 million deficit.
