Normally I can’t understand why anyone would give anything to a university with a 35 billion dollar endowment, but President Faust’s comments (Hillary, were you listening— she’s showing you how to do it) changed my mind—It’s for the kids.If she does nothing else during her tenure, her statement will have shown that she was the right choice for the job.

Gender bias study
It should be noted that the author of the gender bias study is a female who was a postdoctoral employee at the site included in the study.
There are two variables included in the study: productivity (as measured by the number of “internal” papers the individual participated in authoring, often in large groups of 20 or more authors), and conference presentations (as selected by a panel of 6 to 8 individuals). The productivity variable may not be the best true measure of productivity in that it measures only the quantity of papers that each individual participated in, not the quality of those papers.
Nevertheless, it is troubling that a panel, using no blind review process, selects who is able to share the group’s research at conferences.
