About posting jobs

Find quick answers to questions about listing open positions with Inside Higher Ed, including how to post, and why.

I already post all my jobs to my own Web site. Why should I post on Inside Higher Ed as well?

There are three great reasons for posting your openings on Inside Higher Ed.

First, we’re working hard to bring you the “passive” candidate. We know the best candidate for your open position is probably not looking. That’s why Inside Higher Ed will work, hard, to get your job opportunities in front of the entire universe of qualified professionals, not just those on the job hunt. And we’ll make it easy for those “passive” candidates to apply.

Second, posting your jobs to a good niche job board like Inside Higher Ed is the best way to make the most of your investment in your own site. A posting on Inside Higher Ed will bring great candidates to your site, including those who may not already know about your institution.

And third, a posting on Inside Higher Ed is more than a posting. For less than the price of a listing alone on most sites, you’ll get pre-screening capability and full electronic applications — even for faculty positions.

How do I post a job?

There are two ways to post jobs to Inside Higher Ed. You can come to the Web site and enter individual ads, or you can automatically upload jobs.

Posting individual jobs

Click here to post a job via the Web site. You’ll be asked to register (or log in if you’ve already registered with Inside Higher Ed) and then to fill out a simple job posting form. You can pay by credit card when you post, or we’ll happily send you an invoice. We’ll review your ad and get it up on the site within one business day (jobs posted Friday after 12:00 noon EST may not be posted until Monday morning).

Automated job postings

Inside Higher Ed recognizes that smart recruiting can involve a lot of data entry — posting jobs on Web site after Web site is time consuming and inefficient. Now Inside Higher Ed offers a solution — a direct feed from your jobs database to ours that eliminates the need for a single keystroke to post jobs.

Automated job postings require a bit of technical work on your end to get things started, but once in place there’s no work at all involved in posting jobs. Inside Higher Ed has built a SOAP-compliant API that can interact directly with your jobs database (I know, pretty geeky, but the folks who can help you make this happen will know just what it means). With a bit of assistance from your IT department, it’s a simple matter to set up a daily feed of all your job postings, or to allow users to tag individual jobs posted to your Web site for automatic cross-posting to Inside Higher Ed.

Inside Higher Ed has done API integrations for many clients using the PeopleAdmin applicant tracking system (learn more on PeopleAdmin’s Partners page), as well as Hodes IQ, Arbita, First Advantage HMS, and several home grown databases.

Please get in touch with Kathlene Collins, Publisher of Inside Higher Ed, at 202-659-9208, x 103 or kathlene.collins@insidehighered.com for a copy of the API specification or to learn more.

How much do job postings cost?

A single 30-day job posting costs $165. You can choose among several options to get the most out of your posting:

30-day posting — $165

60-day posting — $300

90-day posting — $385

Package of 10 pre-paid 30-day postings — $1250

Featured Job link in our daily news update e-mail — $150

How long does a job stay posted on the Inside Higher Ed site?

Jobs can be posted for 30, 60 or 90 days and end dates can be adjusted to any date within the posting period. You can cancel a posting at any time during its run, but we can’t refund your posting fee. You can also extend the run of a posting for an additional charge. And recruiters who purchase unlimited posting plans can keep jobs posted as long as necessary (up to the expiration of the contract).

Can I change or cancel a posting before my posting expires?

You may edit or cancel your posting at any time during the 30-day run. Just go to your My Jobs tab and find the listing you wish to change or cancel. Make your edits and hit the “re-submit” button. One note — once your ad starts running, we can’t refund your posting fee.

Do I have to pay by credit card or can I be billed?

Our preference is for postings to be paid by credit card as they’re submitted. We will invoice for postings, but we reserve the right to receive payment before the job is posted to the site. Packages can, of course, be invoiced

Do I have access to my past (expired) job postings?

Yes, you do. Your My Jobs tab will display every posting you’ve submitted, starting with the most recent.

How do I re-run a posting?

Simply open the posting from the list on your My Jobs tab, make any necessary edits to the content in the form and click the “resubmit” button at the bottom of the form. The posting will run for 30 days. We’ll charge you $135 for the additional time.

How do candidates find my postings?

Postings on Inside Higher Ed work harder than postings on other sites. That’s because we put your jobs in front of our entire audience — not just the job hunters running searches.

- Leadership Jobs are featured in the top right hand corner of our home page

- Jobs appear in the right hand column of every story-level page on a rotating basis — and because your job listing is tagged with the same categories as our editorial content, we can match jobs to the interests of our readers.

- Job listings can appear in our daily e-mail updates, getting the attention of higher ed’s most plugged-in audience every day.

- A link to all the postings from your institution appears in every job posting.

And job hunters who do search our listings will find your jobs more easily:

- Searching is extremely straightforward and job directories include the first few lines of your posting rather than just job titles.

- E-mail alerts allow potential candidates to create customized searches and receive e-mail notification when jobs matching their criteria appear on Inside Higher Ed

- Our Dual Career search lets academic couples coordinate their searches to find jobs close together.

Can you tell me how many people see my posting?

Your My Jobs tab features reporting on every job posting that runs on the site. We provide statistics on how many times the posting was viewed, what search criteria were used to find it, and how many times it was included in a job alert e-mail.
